“Living History......Benjamin Kilburn and his wife will be attending Northern New England Bookfair Sunday June 6, 2021“
Northern New England’s Premier Book Fair, in it’s 45th rendition, is not just coming to life, but will bring back to life Benjamin Kilburn of Littleton, NH.
From 1865 to 1900 the Kilburn Brothers of Littleton, NH were the largest producers and manufactures of stereoscopic photography in the World, that’s right World.
Brothers Benjamin and Edward would start their company in 1865. While other family members would become involved and help create the successful business Edward would leave the company in 1877. Benjamin was the first photographer and continued to take pictures over the course of the business. His first photo’s were taken in the White Mountains and he chronicled the building of the Cog Railroad and took many images of the Cog and Stage coaches that climb the tallest peak in the northeast.
Now understand in 1865 photography was the newest, latest, and most marvelous technology to be seen in everyday life. It was a novelty to have a photo of yourself, family and love ones. And stereoscopic views were two dimensional and very unique.
At this years Northern New. England Bookfair, held in Concord, NH on Sunday June 7th, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Kilburn will grace the Bookfair with a personal appearance.
The Kilburn’s are long time residents of Littleton and highly regarded in their home community, will be available during the Bookfair for photos, to chat, and Mr. Kilburn will make a presentation about his, now famous, Kilburn Brothers stereoviews. There will be a small donation to the Littleton Historical Society to have your picture taken with the Kilburn’s.
